Didn’t match. To say I am crestfallen would be an understatement. There’s still the alternate list, but I shouldn’t really hope for anything until June. JUNE, can you believe it? After all I’ve waited, for God’s sake. I don’t care if it means I can get in. That’s all I want. I just don’t want to go through the WHOLE application process all over again, but I will if I have to. Aalskdjfalsdkjfa;ldfkj!

Wow, it’s been a while! The med school interview went WONDERFULLY, but unfortunately not spectacularly enough to garner a pre-match acceptance offer from the school. Nonetheless, I have a good chance of getting in during the match process, which culminates in Match Day, next Thursday, February 15th, 2007. Aaagh I am so nervous!!

Christmas came and went,  and in the family there was a new addition as well as a….subtraction? 12/4/06 I received Winnie for my christmas present–an adorable faun chihuahua bundle of joy. I mean, this dog is ALWAYS happy. Nothing gets her down, which is so unlike myself these days. I’m lonely.  She helps that.

Things are going great at my workplace, I now receive commission as of this week, on the products I sell at my desk. We sell OBAGI (the skin treatment/care product line that is the best in the world and that I happen to be using), SkinMedica, Vanicream, and Kinerase, as well as mineral makeup by Jane Iredale. I recently purchased a Clarisonic MD as well which is supposed to be amazing in terms of skin cleansing.

Did anyone catch Grey’s Anatomy last night? Are they serious? Meredith drowning? Get real. God I love Alex Karev though…totally my type–a hard candy (delicious) shell with a gooey center. I swear I’m not hungry…just ravenous.

I’m so excited. Two weeks ago I was invited to interview at one of the medical schools here in Texas and I couldn’t be more ecstatic. It’s my number one choice. I got rejected from another Texas school, but that’s okay. I let it roll over me like water over a duck’s back. I have my suit all ready to go, I’m going to drive super early to get there on time. I absolutely CANNOT be late. I don’t care where you live, if you’re a Houstonian, there is no excuse for not predicting traffic. HELLO! Welcome to Houston!

In the work area of my life, it’s been great. We have a new addition to the area, a wonderfully hilarious woman who I know I am going to get along with famously. Last week I also got a raise. Woohoo! It came out of nowhere too, but hey, that’s not a problem for me! It is much appreciated since I know I give 150% more than the job description. I really like it over there, especially now that I am a regular in terms of knowing everyone and them knowing me. It’s nice.

Well, we’ll see how the interview goes tomorrow! It lasts all day, yeesh, so I don’t know if I’ll remember to report back here, but when I do, you’ll know! Au revoir!

So today I thought was going to be totally stressful because I’m not completely flying on my own yet, but it actually rocked my socks. I got taken out to a fancy steak lunch, and only had to ask 2 questions to my “trainer”. She’s really sweet, even if how we became acquaintances was a little bit awkward. I’m considering dermatology now as a specialty. Who knows! It’s very lucrative and ideal for a woman who plans to have kids (not saying I will, just saying it’s a possibility…the kids that is).

And now, to leave you with a sweet taste in your mouth, a medical joke.

Five surgeons from big cities are having a few drinks at an airport lounge one day discussing who makes the best patients to operate on. The first surgeon, from New York, says, “I like to see accountants on my operating table, because when you open them up, everything inside is numbered.” The second, from Chicago, responds, “Yeah, but you should try electricians! Everything inside them is color coded.” The third surgeon, from Dallas, says, “No, I really think librarians are the best, everything inside them is in alphabetical order.” The fourth surgeon, from Los Angeles chimes in, “You know, I like construction workers…those guys always understand when you have a few parts left over.” But the fifth surgeon, from Washington DC, shut them all up when he observed, “You’re all wrong. Politicians are the easiest to operate on. There’s no guts, no heart, no balls, no brains and no spine, and the head and the ass are interchangeable.”

Yesterday I got called into the conference room by my boss and the credentialing guy. I thought I was in so much trouble and started getting red in the face until she said that it wasn’t anything bad. It turns out, it was really really good! I got promoted after 7 days on the job. Woohoo!

I just started working at a clinic here in Houston–I won’t say the name, I wouldn’t ever want to be dooced–but so far it’s hard, but worthwhile. Everyone is nice and most get along well. I just really like having that experience in a medical & clinical setting. Yes, I deal with insurance and (some) grumpy patients all day long, but the experience is invaluable. Working full time means I get overtime, and an hour lunch, yippee! And it’s enough to pay the car note & insurance, along with credit card bills, which is all I really need since I’m living at home until I go to medical school. Saving that rent money is going to be SO nice. Let’s not think about the fact that I have to start paying off my student loans soon…

Stick It (2006) is a movie by the director of Bring It On and I must say, I reallly, really enjoyed this movie. And I watch a lot of movies. I was laughing my butt off, and the humor was just up my alley. Silly, yet delivered completely irreverently (by lead character “Haley”) or at times totally deadpan (by the uber-hilarious Vanessa Lengies, playing “Joanne”). Great music, great plot (though nothing totally surprising, one must admit, but come on–did you expect the same thing from Bring It On?) and great acting. Jeff Bridges is in this one as Coach Vickerman, and he does a great job. Each girl except for one had a stunt double, and many nationally and internationally medaled gymnasts either doubled for girls or performed in the background (with the exception of Maddy, who acted AND performed). All in all a great movie, definitely one I’m buying. Worth your time. 

Gary (the name of my ‘04 Honda Civic…don’t ask) got injured last night. At 11:30 PM I backed out of my friend Tracy’s parking garage and swung it out, turning, while I reversed. Unfortunately I failed to register the fact that there was a 12-inch diameter concrete pole adjacent to my back left wheel. So, swinging out like a smug ass, I crunched my left front fender right into that ugly yellow pole. Goddamnit. I don’t get in accidents, in fact, I haven’t had one ever until now, practically. (I say practically because ghetto Mexican hit-and-runs don’t count as my fault.)

In other news, Happy 12th Birthday to my little sister Annika! As Pooh would say, “many happy returns of the day.” Whatever that means. I’m pretty sure it means, “give me more honey, ass.”

Apple has done it again. And I mean that in a not-so-good way. Sure we can all yap about new nano colors, but I’m sorry: I just think it looks archaic, harking back to the iPod mini days, when the shiny black and white looked so much more modern. I wouldn’t be so hasty to jump on the iPod nano bandwagon just yet. And the much-rumored widescreen video iPod? Zilch. They merely bumped up the storage space on the 60GB to 80GB, improved battery life and added a new search feature (yippee…). I have to say the only thing that impresses me is iTunes 7; the overhaul was sorely needed, and it looks so darn elegant now. I spent the last (I’m ashamed to say it) 2 hours or so getting iTunes to download my cover artwork for me. It didn’t have a lot of them so it also required Firefox set to Google Images on standby for backup. I’m excited about the new movies feature, except that I have netflix and could technically (though I don’t, because it is illegal) watch movies on my iPod anyway. I’m not entirely sure how one would do that, but I’m pretty sure it’s possible. Probably better if you own the movie already, folks. All in all, I was sorely disappointed what with the huge hullaballoo that whipped everyone in a frenzy come “It’s Showtime” day–kind of a letdown if you ask me. Which you did, right?

How to make your own Ferrero Rocher goodness:

1 jar Nutella

1 package Saltine crackers

1 knife

Spread nutella onto a Saltine cracker, and sandwich with another cracker on top. Enjoy. Note: Nutella as it turns out is MADE by the company Ferrero, hence the literally exact-same taste as the upscale Ferrero Rochers at a fraction of the cost. You’re welcome.
